John Simon of Fayetteville proves that, even at age 91, you’re never too old to enjoy growing roses. This World War II Air Force veteran was the proud winner of a rose bush at the recent South Metro Rose Society 26th Annual Rose Show. Held May 14-15 in Fayetteville, the rose show featured over 330 roses of all varieties grown by local rose enthusiasts, as well as rose arrangements. A large group of show visitors enjoyed viewing, smelling, and photographing the exhibited blooms at no charge. American Rose Society Consulting Rosarians were on hand to answer rose questions and many rose-related items, including the rose bush that Mr. Simon won, were raffled. The South Metro Rose Society is a local affiliate of the American Rose Society. Meetings are held on the 4th Mondays of most months at 7 p.m. at Heritage Bank, 440 N. Jeff Davis Dr. in Fayetteville. Rose growers from novice to expert are welcome to attend at no charge and the next meeting is Aug. 22. For more information call 770-631-3885.
