Rumors about zombies have been staggering around in the Peachtree City and Senoia area for a few weeks now, so inquiring minds at The Citizen set out to nail down the facts.
Consider this an official zombie alert.
Brandee Brooks, unit publicist for the hit AMC series, “The Walking Dead,” confirmed to The Citizen Tuesday that crews will be filming in the area this summer.
More details will be announced soon but local residents can expect to see lights, cameras and some undead action as production on the series’ second season gets underway.
“The Walking Dead” follows a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse outside the Atlanta area. Season one ended with the group leaving the burned-out Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta and trying to find a safe place to go.
The television series is based on a comic book series created by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.
Fayette County, specifically Peachtree City, appears to be a hotbed of Hollywood action these days with Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva,” filming at Falcon Field and other locations in the area and the film “Joyful Noise,” filming a scene at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater earlier this spring.
Just across the border in Senoia, Raleigh Studios is one of seven locations for the company that also has locations in Hollywood and Manhattan Beach, Calif., and Budapest, Hungary, among others.
So, if you see a gnarly looking creature, stumbling down a cart path over the next few weeks and months, chances are they are extras for “The Walking Dead” and not really an undead creature out to eat your brains.
