I spent the last two days at the Fayette County budget meetings. County Administrator Jack Krakeel, Chief Financial Officer Mary Holland and Assistant Financial Officer Toni Howard did an outstanding job presenting a very complex budget.
This is in sharp contrast to the ridiculous presentation the Comptroller of the Board of Education, Laura Brock, gave [May 24].
In just one short week, her fund forecast changed from a negative of $3.3 million to a positive of $300,000. Unfortunately, her forecasts are like that all the time.
Accordingly to the eBoard, Laura had new numbers for everything, including the Fiscal Year 2011 budget numbers. Again, the previous numbers were only one week old.
The reduction in the fund balance changed in one week from a negative $3,313,935 to a positive of $297,588.
Who among us has any confidence in her new numbers?
Laura Brock needs to be replaced. She has demonstrated month after month and year after year that she doesn’t have the qualifications for the position.
