Class of 2011: 5 Fayette high schools to graduate 1,799 Friday

The time that every high school student waits for is almost here. Graduation ceremonies will be held May 27 at the football stadiums at Fayette County’s five high schools. In all, there will be 1,799 students graduating this Friday night. (See The Citizen’s complete graduation coverage with photos in this week’s print edition.)

Whitewater High School will have 398 seniors receiving a diploma or a certificate of attendance and 362 planning to enroll in post-secondary education. Excluding the HOPE scholarship, Whitewater students have been awarded $4.147 million in scholarship funds.

Sandy Creek High School will see 280 seniors graduating with 91 percent planning to enroll in secondary education. Sandy Creek students have amassed $1.5 million in scholarship money, excluding HOPE.

Fayette County High School will have 342 graduates at its ceremonies. The number of students planning to enroll in secondary education was not available. FCHS students will receive $1.9 million in scholarship money, excluding HOPE.

Starr’s Mill High School will see 425 seniors receive a diploma or certificate of attendance at its graduation ceremony. Of that total, 402 are planning to continue their education. Starr’s Mill students, excluding HOPE, will receive $11 million in scholarship funds.

And McIntosh High School will have 390 students receiving a diploma or certificate of attendance. The number of students planning post-secondary education and the amount of scholarship funds awarded to them was not available.

Graduation ceremonies at each of the county’s five public high schools will begin at 7 p.m. at their respective football stadiums. Information on postponements of the ceremonies if inclement weather should occur will be available on each school’s website.
