Road work on Ga. Highway 16 eastbound from Carroll County to Ga. Highway 14 into Newnan and on I-85 northbound from Ga. Highway 34 to Ga. Highway 154 is ongoing and is expected to result in traffic delays. Work is expected to be completed on I-85 by May 18 while the work on Hwy. 16 carries an expected completion date of May 31.
The Georgia Dept. of Transportation (DOT) District 3 spokesperson Kimberly Larson said the continued work on Hwy. 16 will involve roadway re-surfacing while the I-85 work is intended to improve the smoothness of the northbound lanes.
Larson said motorists on Hwy. 16 should expect traffic delays from lane closures, adding that a pilot car will be utilized to assist motorists traveling through this work zone. Work is expected to be complete by May 31, weather permitting, said Larson.
The work that began April 9 on I-85 northbound to smooth out the road surface will require nightly double-lane closures between exits 47 (Hwy. 34) and 51 (Hwy. 154), Larson said. Motorists should expect delays from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. through the expected completion date of May 18.
“This is a work zone and extreme caution is necessary,” said Larson. “Motorists are advised to reduce speeds as they travel through this construction work zone. Message signs, barrels and cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes.”
