The Coweta County Fire Department has been approved for a new $500,000 pumper truck to replace one recently wrecked and taken out of service. The wrecked truck had been scheduled for replacement next year.
Fire Chief Johnny Teeters at the April 5 meeting of the Coweta County Commission recommended the purchase of a Sutphen Custom Monarch Pumper priced at $499,828, the lower of the two bids received. Commissioners agreed and approved the purchase.
That price will be offset by $165,518 from the settlement check from Travelers Insurance that came after one of the department’s older fire trucks was involved in a recent roll-over accident. The older truck was scheduled for replacement next year, Teeters told commissioners.
The commission approved the purchase that came with a balance of $334,310.
The new truck will be purchased with either one-cent sales tax funds or with impact fees.
