Bowling alley coming to PTC’s 74 South?

Is it possible that a bowling alley might become a neighbor to the Autozone on Peachtree City’s southside?

The answer is yes … and no. Technically, the zoning conditions for the Wilshire Village retail area prohibit a bowling alley as a use.

However, the city is exploring the possibility of lifting that restriction for a proposed “Oasis Bowling Center” to come to Wilshire Village, which is located off Ga. Highway 74 south at Rockaway Road.

The matter will be discussed by the city’s planning commission at its regular meeting Monday night. The meeting is at City Hall and starts at 7 p.m.

To make way for the bowling alley, the city would need to amend the conditions that were adopted when the 21-acre site was rezoned from industrial to commercial use in September 2007, according to city staff.

The planning commission is not expected to take a vote on the matter because it is being brought up as a workshop item.

According to its website, Oasis Bowling has locations in Buford and Loganville. Both locations have a sports bar with “pool tables, darts and lots of TVs and live entertainment,” the website says.

The website lists the company’s hours of operation as being 10 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The city was approached about locating a bowling alley here last year, but the proposed 36,000 square foot building was determined not to be a good fit for the proposed location off Ga. Highway 74 north at the former Nature’s Nursery site between south Kedron Drive and Wisdom Road.

At the time, Mayor Don Haddix noted that he has had a number of requests for a bowling alley to come to Peachtree City.
