The 2010 Census county by county population tally for Georgia is scheduled to be released this week. Though they might differ from the actual numbers, the July 2010 estimated population figures showed that Fayette County’s population grew 18.8 percent over 2000, while Coweta County showed a 31 percent increase and Clayton County grew by 17 percent.
The figures generated by the U.S. Census Bureau are stated as estimates. Those figures showed that the Fayette population increased from 91,263 in 2000 to an estimated 108,431 in 2010, a difference of 17,168, or 18.8 percent.
Next door in Coweta County, the 2000 population is listed at 89,215 while the July 2010 estimated population was 129,433, an increase of 40,218, or 31 percent.
And in Clayton County, the 2000 population of 236,517 rose to 276,322 in July 2010, a difference of 39,805, or 17 percent.
Other nearby counties showed expected population increases during the period. Spalding County went from 58,417 residents in 2000 to 64,795 in 2010 while Henry County jumped from a population of 119,341 in 2000 to 199,915 in 2010.
And to the south in Meriwether and Pike the population message was mixed. Pike’s 2000 population of 13,688 came in at 17,493 in 2010 while Meriwether’s 22,534 residents had fewer neighbors by 2010. Meriwether’s 2010 population shrank slightly to 22,274.
