It’s that time of year. The Christmas season is here and so are the parades and festivities this weekend in Senoia and Newnan. Light Up Senoia festivities will be held Saturday, followed by Newnan’s annual Christmas parade on Sunday. Weather for both events should include relatively clear skies and cool temperatures.

Light Up Senoia festivities will begin downtown on Saturday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. As usual, the afternoon will be filled with a variety of venues including Santa’s workshop, music and entertainment and plenty of goodies at the food court.

The highlight of the day’s activities will be the annual parade that will begin at 5:30 p.m. and work its way through downtown along Main Street.

And on Sunday, this year’s Newnan Christmas parade will begin at 3 p.m. at Jackson and Clark streets and continue along LaGrange Street and on to Newnan High School. The parade will feature more than 70 entries and more than 50 floats. Cartoonist David Boyd will serve as grand marshal.

The parade’s theme this year is “Santa Claus comes to town” and will include floats, walking groups, marching bands and decorated cars and trucks.

The city does need volunteers for the event. Those interested should contact the city’s public information office at 770-254-2358 or email gsnider@cityofnewnan.org
