Members of Saint Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Newnan are preparing to honor their patron saint. Although the official date is Thursday, July 22, the parish is planning a vigil Mass at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 21. The special liturgy will focus on the saint’s life and her faithful dedication and following of Jesus Christ.
Saint Mary Magdalene stood at the foot of the cross on which Jesus was crucified, accompanied by his mother Mary. She was the first disciple to find that he had risen from the dead as he promised and she proclaimed his Resurrection to the other apostles.
The Mass in her honor will be celebrated by the parish pastor, Father Daniel J. Fleming, assisted by Deacon David Sandlin. Music for the service will be presented by Paul Bauer, parish music director.
The Newnan area community is invited to share in the evening’s events, including an ice cream social to be held following Mass in the parish Fellowship Hall. The ice cream social will be hosted by the parish’s Women’s Guild.
Saint Mary Magdalene Church is at 3 Village Rd., directly behind the new Newnan Library on Robinson Lake Road. The parish office number is 770-253-1888.
