Coweta County will see a chunk of the $53 million announced this week by the Georgia Dept. of Transportation (DOT) for road improvement projects around the state. Coweta’s two projects will include road work on Ga. Highway 14/U.S. Highway 29 from Newnan to Palmetto and Ga. Highway 74 from Senoia down to Woodbury in Meriwether County.
The Hwy. 14/U.S. 29 project will begin at U.S. Highway 27 in Newnan and extend 21.2 miles to Griffith Drive in Palmetto. The $4.3 million project includes milling, plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving and shoulder reconstruction. The project completion date is May 31, 2011.
The project’s low bidder was Marietta-based C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc.
Coweta’s other project will cover the area of Hwy. 74 from north of Miracle Way in Senoia and extend south for 21.1 miles to just north of Ga. Highway 18 in Woodbury.
The $3.6 million project award calls for milling, inlay, plant mix resurfacing, single surface treatment paving and shoulder reconstruction. The project completion date was set for May 31, 2011.
C.W. Matthews was also the low bidder for this project.
DOT maintains 18,000 state highways and interstates miles or 15.5 percent of the 116,000 miles of public roads in Georgia. These state highways and interstates carry 63 percent of the total vehicle miles travelled statewide.
