In a bid to free up more staff time and eliminate a duplication of missions, the Peachtree City Council has disbanded its library commission.

The duties of library oversight will be transferred to the city’s recreation commission. That will allow citizens to have an avenue of communication when they need to speak about library-related issues, officials said.

The Peachtree City Library is the 19th most active library in the state. It is also served by the Friends of the Library, which includes four of the five current library commission members. Because of the overlap, the missions of the commission and Friends of the Library were similar, according to library staff.

The recreation commission will have a liaison appointed to work directly with the Friends of the Library group when issues arise, officials said.
