One of Peachtree City’s most picturesque locales is now available for rent. Sort of, anyway.
Lake Peachtree can now be rented for special events, particularly those which involve the use of dragon boats, which are being used frequently for team-building type events.
A new policy approved Thursday night by the city council allows the city’s two largest conference centers the opportunity to rent the lake for daytime use up to a combined total of 10 times a year. Other entities can also ask to rent the lake, but those proposals will be considered on a case-by-case basis, officials said.
The events would be limited to a portion of the lake between Picnic Park and Ga. Highway 54, the area typically used by the popular International Dragon Boat Festival hosted by the Peachtree City Rotary Club. Events would also be allowed to use Drake Field as a boat launching site and, on some occasions also the boat docks at Battery Way.
The rental fee will not be charged to the Rotary event nor for the two local triathlon events that also use the lake.
The city established a $500 rental fee that was based on the amount of staff time to prepare Drake Field and process the requests. The requests will be fast-tracked to help the conference centers in the competitive market of corporate events, said city Leisure Services Director Randy Gaddo.
