There seems to be no end to the diversity of community service by Action of Faith Ministries. The new location in Tyrone provides space to expand those services and gives the ministry needed warehouse space for the 20 ministries that utilize the large food bank facility.

Action of Faith’s new 10,500 square-foot location at 1550 Senoia Road in Tyrone is outfitted with classrooms, offices and a large event room and warehouse area for food bank storage.

Director Curtis Hindman said Action of Faith is currently supplying 20 local ministries with food to accommodate their own food pantry programs.

The ministry’s large event room is used for a variety of purposes to celebrate recovery issues, hold revival and other services and for use as a venue for seminar presentations by other organizations, Hindman said.

“Eventually in the event room we will build a stage and sound room,” Hindman said. “We also expect to do filming there at a later date.”

The ministry’s expansion to the Tyrone facility is essentially an extension of Hindman’s belief in the need to provide a wide array of services for those in the community that need varying types of help. Whether the issue is recovering from alcohol and or drug use, women with young children in financial need or those in Fayette’s affluent community who are experiencing hunger, Hindman said we are all God’s children and sometimes we need a helping hand.

“I shared this vision four years ago and it’s coming to pass. And I’m blown away,” Hindman said. “The Senoia Road building became available and it fell into our laps. The timing was perfect.”

Pam Black directs the ministry’s Celebrate Recovery effort while Deborah Auglin runs the Hearts to Nourish Hope education component at the Tyrone facility.
A sampling of course offerings include financial literacy, futures planning, money management, GED and Life and Career skills. And to compliment the classroom work, Hindman said computers are being donated for use in the various educational classes.

Hindman and the Action in Faith group are no strangers to providing community services. First there was the men’s transitional home in Fayetteville that has served 35-40 young men in the past three years. Then came Resurrection Clothing & More on Ga. Highway 85 South, the donation center where Action of Faith also operates a food pantry and holds numerous classes and serves hundreds of people each month.

Now at its new Tyrone location, and aside from the various courses gearing up to begin, the facility is bringing in 10-20 pallets of food each week to be distributed to the 20 ministries operating food banks in Fayette, Coweta, Henry, Clayton and Spalding counties.

Hindman said the organization itself needs community assistance in one area: helping with the continued lease and utility cost of the facility.

“We can get grants for things like teachers and school supplies, but not for the building and utilities,” Hindman explained. “The biggest push is to find people to help us with these.”

Hindman said the need is funding to cover overhead and to continue the expansion. Hindman said he hopes to have part of that need met by working with eight area churches that will each commit to $1,000 per month. Action of Faith is already working with Square Foot Ministries on some of its interior work projects.

“The whole vision from the get-go was not to be a stand alone ministry. It was meant to be a collaborative. We don’t do church. We do ministry,” Hindman said with a smile.
