When striving for a sustainable future, even the smallest actions, and people, can make a huge impact.
A recent Earth Day poster contest at Western Elementary School in Newnan proved just that as young minds created artwork reflecting a mature and thoughtful environmental awareness not often seen in adults. In honor of the school’s efforts, sponsor Coweta-Fayette EMC awarded art sets to winners from each grade and displayed student submissions in the lobbies of all three office locations.
To continue the community festivities, Coweta-Fayette, with the help of area charitable organizers and volunteers, planted crape myrtle trees at One Roof Ecumenical Alliance Outreach in Newnan.
To further celebrate the 40th annual observance of Earth Day, Coweta-Fayette EMC focused on the easy ways everyone can raise their eco-I.Q. by wearing green, participating in office festivities and planting trees in the EMC service area. Green snacks, weather stripping, caulking and efficiency-related brochures, including information on Georgia’s Green Power EMC program and 101 low-cost energy-saving tips, were also handed out to members.
Within cooperative offices, EMC employees were also asked to recycle aluminum cans and drink from reusable water bottles.
“Earth Day presents an opportunity for us to show our continued commitment to environmental concerns,” said Coweta-Fayette CEO Anthony “Tony” Sinclair. “Through our own small initiatives – both on a personal level and within the cooperative – and the larger-scale efforts of the Green Power EMC program, we are truly entering a new age of sustainable practices.”
Coweta-Fayette EMC is a consumer-owned cooperative providing electricity and related services to over 73,000 members in Coweta, Fayette, Heard, South Fulton and Clayton counties.
