Celebrating over 30 years as the world’s disco icons, the artist who recorded the number one disco anthem of all time, Gloria Gaynor performing along with those one-of-a-kind group of guys who helped define a pop era, the Village People will kick off the 2010 BMW of South Atlanta summer concert series on May 15 at The Fred.
Gaynor’s name is recognized worldwide. Her voice is a dynamic force. Her Grammy Award winning signature song, “I Will Survive,” is an inspiration that has touched the hearts of people all over the world. It was recorded in 1978, as Gaynor’s tale of personal strength and was soon to climb the charts to claim the number spot. Little did she know, the song would grow into the banner for social survival which is still relevant after three decades of international air play. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the song which itself has survived in various forms and has been re-recorded over 200 times by various artists such as Gladys Knight and Diana Ross.
Live concerts are an integral part of Gaynor’s life. She has touched audiences in more than 80 countries with her electrifying performances. Numerous dignitaries and ambassadors from the likes of President Clinton, Princess Grace, Prince Rainer and Pope John Paul II have had the pleasure of watching her perform.
The Village People, those six talented men who combine energetic choreography with outrageous fun and lots of singing and dancing will follow her performance which begins at 8 pm. Selling more than 65 million recordings (1987 Dance Music Report), The Village People are an instant phenomenon with hits that include, “Macho Man,” “YMCA,” “In the Navy,” “Go West” and more.
