It looks more like an exquisite home than a library. And the artist’s rendering of the exterior of the long-awaited Senoia Library that will be located along Pylant Street at Merrimac Lake Park is, in a word: beautiful.
At approximately four times the size of the current library, likely coming in at 4,000-5,000 square feet, recent action by the Coweta County Library Board now has the fully funded project placed in the beginning of the design phase.
Past obstacles involving the project appear to have been overcome by the determination to move ahead with the library’s construction.
“The Senoia Library is moving forward. It appears we have worked through all of the issues and challenges that the chosen lot has given us,” said library board trustee Robert Ward. “I am currently waiting on a timeline from K.A. Oldham Design on the preparation of documents for construction. When I get that timeline I should be able to more accurately predict a construction start date.”
The conceptual drawings have been approved by the state. Once the design phase is complete the project will require additional approval from the state library board and Coweta County. Another facet of the construction approval mechanism occurs in Senoia, first with the city’s Historic Preservation Commission and then before the Senoia Planning Commission.
Though the remaining timelines have not been established, optimism over the project and its timely conclusion was easily evidenced in the eyes and the voice of Senoia Councilman and county library board representative Jeff Fisher.
“I realize that we’ve been at an impasse for an extended period of time and we still have a way to go. Nevertheless, there is some form of resolve to this matter. We have seemingly overcome our indifferences and are pressing forward with the design phase,” Fisher said recently. “Let this serve as a testament to the spirit of cooperation and understanding between the City of Senoia and the Coweta County Library Board. I have meaningful assurances from all necessary parties that provide for a continued commitment to working together in an effort to advance our mutual goals and objectives, and that’s to build a library in Senoia.”
