“The more, the merrier” does not usually apply to political races. Merrier or not, the qualifying period last week ended with a challenger for the District 2 seat held by Coweta County Commissioner Tim Lassetter and a total of three candidates vying for the District 3 commission seat being vacated by Commissioner Randolph Collins.
Lassetter in the July primary will face-off with 63 year-old retired Delta employee Eddie L. Wilson who has called Coweta home for the past 26 years.
In District 3, Commissioner Randolph Collins announced that he will not be running for re-election. Stepping up and qualifying for the Republican primary to capture the northeast Coweta commission seat were David Stover, George “Kett” Harper and Bob Blackburn.
Stover is the 38 year-old owner of a local advertising/marketing/public relations firm who has lived in Coweta County for the past 12 years.
Harper is a 35 year-old engineer who has lived in Coweta for 11 years.
And Blackburn, 53, is a realtor and lifelong resident of Coweta County.
Things were quiet during qualifying for the state-level races where there was no competition for the House seats held by Rep. Lynn Smith and Rep. Billy Horne and the Senate seat held by Mitch Seabaugh.
And at the Congressional level in November, Rep. Lynn Westmoreland will face Democratic challenger and teacher Frank Saunders of Midland.
