AT&T Wireless customers in east Coweta County should see a boost in their service with the activation last week of a new 3G wireless cell site. The site will provide new coverage for area residents and businesses between Sharpsburg and Peachtree City along Ga. Highway 54 and on Ga. Highway 154 at the intersection of Christopher Road and Reese Road.

The Coweta location is one of a total of 60 new Georgia cell sites announced by AT&T. The company’s network investment plan also includes an upgrade to more than 250 additional cell site across the state, said company representative Stacey Harth. The new site is part of the company’s continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced mobile devices and applications, she said.

“Investing in and expanding the wireless network across the state is a priority in 2010, in both urban and rural areas,” said AT&T Georgia External Affairs Manager Pete Meadows. “We continue to make significant investments to deliver dependable wireless access in more places across Georgia.”

Hart said the new cell site is one part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to extend its 3G wireless network. It is also part of AT&T’s ongoing investment to build the broadband networks that will fuel economic growth and create jobs and enable its customers to quickly access the content, applications and services that matter most to them, she added.

From 2007 through 2009, AT&T’s total capital investment in its Georgia wireless and wireline networks was more than $4.1 billion. From 2007 through 2009, AT&T’s wireless network investment in Georgia was nearly $1.1 billion, according to information provided by the company.

“This expansion is important to the Coweta area,” said Candace Boothby, president of the Newnan-Coweta County Chamber of Commerce. “More than ever before businesses are using wireless communications to stay in touch and we appreciate AT&T’s continued investment in our community.”
