Local woman recognized for service

A Fayette County woman was recognized last week for winning the prestigious Robert Benham Award for community service.

Angela Hinton Fonda, who is a representative on the oversight board for the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services, said she feels “very fortunate” to be in a position to support DFCS.

Angela Hinton Fonda, who is a representative on the oversight board for the Fayette County Department of Family and Children Services, said she feels “very fortunate” to be in a position to support DFCS.

Hinton Fonda, a senior assistant city attorney for the city of Atlanta, has been involved in a variety of projects here. One involved helping students who age out of foster care move into college better prepared. Community members bought brand-new suitcases that were loaded with a set of towels and an alarm clock.

Hinton Fonda also led a Fayette Leadership project to collect career-appropriate clothes for women served by the Promise Place domestic violence program. She was assisted in the project by the Georgia Association of Women Lawyers.

The goal of that program is to help women build lives independent from their abuser, Fonda said.

In recognizing Hinton Fonda for her leadership in Fayette County, Commission Chairman Jack Smith said the county was well award that she was “an asset to the community.”
