For people looking for a different present for Mother’s Day this year, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Newnan is offering a novel opportunity -— a full, lobster dinner.

Members of the church are taking orders for complete dinners to take home on the day before Mother’s special day. The only thing left to supply is the candle light.

Since all of the lobsters will be flown in live from Maine, they will have to be ordered by May 1.

By placing orders in advance, fathers and children will ensure they don’t forget and wind up having to settle for stale candy or over-priced flowers in a last-minute rush. They’ll get a handy e-mail reminder with time and directions on how to pick up their treat.

A full dinner includes a 1.25-pound lobster, corn and new potatoes for $20 each. Free delivery for orders of 10 within the Newnan city limits.Customers can also order live lobsters for $15 each, without the extras.

Orders can be picked up May 8 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at St. Paul’s, 576 Roscoe Road, Newnan.

“We want to make it as simple as we can because we know that’s what moms appreciate, and dads, too,” said Bill Harrison, senior warden at St. Paul’s, essentially the chairman of the church’s governing board.

Customers will be able to pick up the steaming-hot dinners in time for a romantic, Saturday-night supper. Lobsters can also be refrigerated and served cold, in a salad, made into a stew or added to omelets on Mother’s Day itself.

A portion of the proceeds will go to the St. Paul’s charitable efforts which include Bethlehem Ministries, One Roof and the community medical clinic, the support organization for needy people in the Newnan area.

“St. Paul’s has been very active with One Roof and other outreach ministries for years. When we discussed how to help, we latched onto this cool idea of offering lobsters that we learned about from Episcopal churches in other states,” said Junior Warden Anne Josey. “No other groups in Newnan use lobsters in their fund raisers, so we figured it would be a hoot. Plus, it’s sort of a mission to the mothers of Coweta County to make sure they get a different kind of present this year.”

Orders can be placed online at www.newnanlobsterfest.org, by e-mail at [email protected] or by phone 8:30 a.m. – noon, Monday through Friday at 770-253-4264.
