The Georgia Renaissance Festival returns for its 25th season starting this Saturday and all of the fan favorites return, including the Birds of Prey show, the joust, turkey legs, all sorts of food on a stick, the Amazing Maze and much more.

Over 3.7 million visitors have entered the gates to the Georgia Renaissance Festival since it opened and those guests have consumed over two million pounds of turkey legs, over 80 million ounces of soft drinks and over 40 thousand gallons of ice cream. It’s a good thing that there is plenty of space to walk off all those treats. There are 32 acres of shopping, games and amusements. There are nearly 1,000 costumed characters at the festival and there are 10 stages filled with non-stop entertainment each day.

While old standbys like the petting zoo and The Ghosts of the Galleon offer plenty of fun for the family, new shows such as the Amazing Aerial Trapeze and Silk Stunt Show and the Magnificent Lipizzan and Andalusian Stallion Show are sure to become popular attractions as well. Also new this year is Tartanic. Imagine one dancer, six drums, six drones, 18 notes, fast fingers, high comedy, flying bagpipes, taste-defying stunts and scorching hot music played at over 120 beats per minute, all brought to you by five vigorous men without pants. (The group is dressed in full kilt).

This year’s theme will be the recreation of The Coronation of King Henry VIII. The year is 1534 and King Henry VIII has been the King of England for 25 years. In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Georgia Renaissance Festival and His Majesty’s silver anniversary on the throne, the festival is going to host a re-coronation ceremony for the King. Guests can celebrate along with the royal court, making the re-coronation of King Henry VIII a truly memorable event for all.

The Georgia Renaissance Festival is open Saturdays and Sundays, Apr. 17-June 6, as well as Memorial Day. There are specials each weekend as well. This weekend will be 2-4-1 weekend as visitors who buy one adult ticket get one free.
