Newnan Hospital, Inc. announced Apr. 2 that the Newnan Hospital Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been sold to Macon-based Ethica Health & Retirement Communities.

Newnan Hospital Inc. has operated the 143-bed nursing home, located at 244 Broad St. in Newnan, since purchasing it in 1994 when it was Beaulieu Convalescent Center. When Piedmont Healthcare bought Newnan Hospital in 2007, Newnan Hospital Inc. retained the nursing home because Piedmont did not operate nursing homes.

Newnan Hospital. Inc. Chairman Tom Moat said the hospital board went through an extensive process of soliciting and evaluating proposals by several nursing home organizations before choosing to sell the nursing home to Ethica.

“In addition to the price offered by Ethica, our board was impressed with their comprehensive programs of providing patient care, and their plans to upgrade the facility,” Moat said, adding that Ethica will continue to employ substantially all the nursing home staff.

Moat said all proceeds from the nursing home sale and from the hospital sale will fund Newnan Hospital Foundation, Inc., which will support health care needs for the community.

“The Foundation board will begin to evaluate those needs, and we are pleased to be in a position to meet some of these needs of our community,” Moat said.
