Six people will be honored by the Alumni Association during the upcoming Parents-Alumni Weekend for their contributions to North Georgia College & State University in Dahlonega. One of those being honored is Fayetteville resident Ben Malcolm, Hall of Fame.

Credited with laying the foundation for today’s U.S. Army Special Forces, Malcom graduated from North Georgia in 1950 and served 29 years in the military. His book, “White Tigers: My Secret War in North Korea,” details his mission far behind enemy lines, during which he organized North Korean sympathizers and freedom fighters. The mission was classified for 40 years and the book later was the basis for a segment of the History Channel documentary series, “Heroes Under Fire.”

All six will be honored during the annual Alumni Association Awards Banquet, set to begin at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, April 17 in the Memorial Hall Gym. A reception will begin at 5:15 p.m., also in the gym. Cost for the event is $30 per person and all alumni, faculty, staff and parents are invited to attend.
