The Marine Corps League Detachment # 1325 is changing locations. The detachment, which has previously met the first Wednesday of each month at The Gathering Place in Peachtree City, will begin meeting in the Fellowship Hall of Christ the King Church on Highway 34 between Newnan and Peachtree City. The move will allow the Detachment to be more centrally located for Marines in Coweta and Fayette counties. The meetings will continue to be at 7:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month. The next meeting is Apr. 7.
The Clyde Thomason detachment, named in honor of an Atlanta Marine who received the Medal of Honor and perished in World War II, is based out of Fayette and Coweta counties and serves other surrounding areas. Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps and banding together with those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged. The MCL seeks to effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy and is involved in voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines, Fleet Marine Force Corpsmen and former Marines and FMF Corpsmen (and to their widows and orphans) and in perpetuating the history of the United States Marine Corps by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.
The League also welcomes anyone who is a fan of the Marine Corps and wishes to associate with the Marine Corps League.
The Marine Corps League has an array of ongoing programs designed to help Marines and their communities, including: Marines Helping Marines Wounded Marines Program; Young Marines of the Marine Corps League; U.S. Marines Youth Physical Fitness Program; Scholarship Programs; Legislative Programs; Veterans Service Officer Program; Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program (VAVS); Toys-For-Tots; and the Marine-4-Life/Injured Marine Support Program. The League also participates in various patriotic functions, locally and at a national level. Such events include the National Memorial Day Parade and the National 4th of July Parade in Washington.
“I’d like to see us participate in local parades and events, too,” added George Dienhart, detachment commandant.
