“Do you hear the people sing?” Fifty talented Sandy Creek High School Fine Arts Department students are singing out that and other famous lines this weekend just north of Tyrone.
“Les Miserables School Edition” is being presented in Patriot Hall, the school’s auditiorium, at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 13, and at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.
The students have been rehearsing for the annual spring musical theater production. These students were selected for “Les Miserables School Edition” following auditions in the fall.
In order to be eligible to participate in the production students must be enrolled in an SCHS fine arts class: art, band, chorus, drama, or orchestra.
The production is under the direction of musical director, Millie Turek, guest drama director, Jonsie Pollock, and technical director, Kathy Andersen.
Assisting the directors are SCHS musical alums Savannah Turek (‘08) and Erin Burnett (‘04).
This world famous musical is based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo and is studied annually by Mr. Allagon’s French III and IV classes. Mrs. Barnes’ AP Literature class is also currently studying the novel.
The directors have entered this year’s production in the Shuler Hensley Awards for excellence in metro area high school musical theater.
Due to the mature subject matter, this show is not recommended for young audience members.
