Peachtree City’s Water and Sewer Authority has received a clean bill of financial health.
The authority got a “clean audit” with no findings from the CPA firm of Mauldin and Jenkins.
The audit was presented to the authority Monday night.
Though there were no findings of any irregularities, Mauldin and Jenkins is recommending the authority purchase software to handle the accounting of capital assets. CPA David Irwin said the authority currently tracks its assets in an Excel spreadsheet which could be affected by entry errors.
Specialized software would allow such errors to be caught easier, Irwin said. The authority decided to look into the purchase of such software on Irwin’s recommendation.
Irwin said WASA General Manager Stephen Hogan has done a “fabulous job” with the finances in conjunction with city assistant finance director Janet Camburn.
In other business, WASA approved a $50,595 bid to install lift station control panels at three locations. Hogan noted that the current control panels have exceeded their service life and have caused service issues such as false alarms.
The bid was awarded to Manufacturers Agents and Distribution Services, LLC.
The authority had initially budgeted to spend $75,000 on the project, Hogan noted.
Hogan also updated the authority on the status of the sludge dryer project. The dryer is being installed and is necessitating a change to the city’s wastewater treatment permit with the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, he said.
The authority also discussed perhaps naming the city’s Line Creek wastewater treatment plant after former authority general manager Larry Turner, who died unexpectedly last year.
