Thomas Hamilton “Tom” Vickery Jr., 83, Griffin, died Feb. 1, 2010. He was born Nov. 17, 1926. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Hamilton and Robbie Burnham Vickery, and sons Ronald Vickery, and Donald Vickery. He served in the United States Merchant Marines and upon returning to civilian life, worked in his father’s painting contracting business. He later pursued a career in law enforcement, retiring with the rank of lieutenant after 28 years on the Newnan Police Department. He enjoyed traveling and spending time on Greenwood Lake in Heard County. He was a member of the Sylvan Masonic Lodge and Yaarab Shrine, and the First Christian Church.
Services were at McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Randy Lamb officiating. Survivors include his wife, Winow Paramore Vickery; children, Gary Brown, Scott and Brenda Brown, Angie and Stan Jones, Steve and Gina Vickery, Gregg and Barbara Brown, Tommy and Becky Vickery, Clark and Michelle Vickery; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Wright, Louise Knowles, and Katherine Kendall. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church, 8 Elm St., Newnan, GA 30263. McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
