The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce’s next B2B Luncheon is today from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Chamber Meeting Place. The topic is “The Ins and Outs of Business Communications.” The presenter is Harry Vander Krabben of Toastmasters.

Newnan native Jeff Bishop will be speaking about and showing photographs from his new book “Images of America: Newnan” at a special presentation titled “Newnan: Then and Now” today, at 6:30 p.m. at the Coweta Public Library System’s central library on Literary Lane Photographs of various parts of Newnan will be shown to illustrate how the town has changed over the years. Within the past year Bishop received his master’s degree in history from the University of West Georgia, was appointed director of the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society, was commissioned by the Newnan Theatre to write a play based on an infamous murder in Coweta, and published his book. Katie M. Stout, teen author of new release “Hello, I Love You,” will appear today at the Newnan Barnes & Noble, at 6 p.m. The book, called a “fun and fresh romantic novel in the vein of ‘Anna and the French Kiss,’” is about a teen who escapes to a boarding school abroad and falls for a Korean pop star. Stout, a Senoia native, will meet guests and sign copies of her teen debut.

The Summer Wined Up is today in downtown Newnan. It is a wine walk where 28 different downtown businesses host the event to serve as a tasting locations. These merchants will feature different hors d’oeuvres and a variety of whites, reds, and specialty blends for guests to sample. All downtown business hosts are happy to extend their business hours and hospitality to all downtown guests (drinkers and non-drinkers) including retail specials and promotions. This year’s event will also celebrate local cultural arts in partnership with the Newnan Cultural Arts Commission.

A free live jazz performance will occur during the event at the Greenville Street Park downtown. Visitors can expect to hear jazz being played while in the downtown businesses and alongside some downtown streets. Advance tickets are available at a reduced rate of $20 per-person via www.mainstreetnewnan.com. The day of the event all tickets will be sold for $25 each. Tickets will be available at the registration table on East Court Square at 4:30 p.m. Event goers must be at least 21 years of age and provide a valid photo ID at the registration table on East Court Square for admittance.

The Lexus of South Atlanta Summer Concert Series continues at The Fred on Saturday, June 13 with the distinctive and soulful sounds of Michael McDonald. McDonald will be the third show in the six concert series. here are a limited number of reserved seats still available and may be purchased at The Fred Box Office, or by calling 770-631-0630 or online at www.amphitheater.org.
Gates will open at 7 p.m., and the opening act for the evening will be Michael’s son Dylan McDonald performing with his band The Avians. They will take the stage at 8 p.m., with Michael going on at 9 p.m.

The Greater Fayette Republican Women’s Club is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. The group was chartered by the National Federation of Republican Women in 1985 and is an active member of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women. GFRWC is a partisan grassroots political organization which brings together woman of all ages and walks of life to positively impact the direction of our nation, state and local communities. A reception will be held at the Fayette Republican Party Event Center,174 Glynn Street North, Fayetteville, between 3 and 5 p.m. today. The Southern Crescent Walk to End Alzheimer’s is hosting a Walk Team Rally party today at noon to kick off their annual walk season. It is at the Fayette Chamber of Commerce, 600 West Lanier Avenue, Suite 205 in Fayetteville. It is hosted by Piedmont Fayette Hospital and everyone is invited. This year marks the 16th annual walk which brought in over $160,000 for the Georgia Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in 2014.

PTC Community Suicide Awareness Meeting is today from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Dolce AtlantaPeachtree at 201 Aberdeen Parkway in Peachtree City.
The meeting will be held in the auditorium This event is open to the entire community. The auditorium holds 150 people. The auditorium is near the front desk and parking is in the larger lot.

The Embracing Military Families garage sale is June 19-20, and the deadline for donations is Saturday, June 13. Donations of gently used clothes, furniture, exercise equipment, china, knick knacks, pictures, paintings all in good condition are being accepted for the fundraiser. Peachtree City author, historian, and writing teacher Victoria Wilcox will sign copies of “The Last Decision”, book three of her award-winning historical fiction trilogy, Southern Son: The Saga of Doc Holliday at Omega Book Center today from noon to 2 p.m. Wilcox is the founding director of Fayetteville’s Holliday-Dorsey-Fife House Museum, where she discovered the story that led to Southern Son. She devoted 18 years researching and writing the trilogy, becoming a nationally known expert on the life of Doc Holliday. Omega is located at 100 N. Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City. The Senoia Area Historical Society is now offering tickets to their annual benefit event, “Tea on the Porch.” The expansive wrap-around porch at Dub and Mary Pearman’s home on Pylant Street will once again be the site of the tea to be held at 2 p.m. The society will be celebrating the life of former resident Mary A. Brown, Senoia and Coweta County’s very first proprietress of a local bed and breakfast. Brown was much more than a successful entrepreneur, stepping out into an area of hospitality only just becoming popular in the South during the early 1980’s. While sampling a variety of tasty confections, including scones with cream and jam, cucumber sandwiches and hand-made petit fours, guests at the afternoon tea will hear more about this well-loved SAHS member and about the historic Culpepper House she revived. A local church is hosting an event to raise awareness of the need for foster and adoptive parents. “Children’s Lives Matter” is scheduled for today from noon until 4 p.m. at Heritage Park in downtown Fayetteville. It is being spearheaded by Heaven Bound Church in Fayetteville. More than 14 private agencies will be on hand along with numerous local and surrounding counties’ DFACS representatives. There will be a forum with various city and county officials, as well as a live concert featuring many local churches and musical groups. Can you push a wheelchair like a pro? Here is your chance to prove it. The first annual Wheelchair Experience is today from 11 a.m.-noon at Fayetteville First United Methodist Church. Entry fee is a $5 donation to the Spina Bifida Association of Georgia, which has a support group in Fayetteville for people living on the south side of Atlanta. The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society is hosting “Quilting for Kids,” a summer camp for boys and girls 8-13 years of age. It is scheduled for June 22-26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Cost is $75, which includes materials for projects.Camp will be at the society’s McRitchie-Hollis Museum, 74 Jackson St. in Newnan. Class size is limited to six students.
Projects to be completed include a drawstring bag/backpack, a pillow case, and a small rail fence quilt project. Supplies to bring to class include a sewing machine in good working order with its operating manual as well as scissors, a note book, pencils and straight pins. New Writers Night is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. at the Newnan Barnes & Noble as authors from the community are invited to showcase their new titles. An AARP Drivers Safety Class is scheduled for today from 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the Central Library in Newnan. The class will review participants’ driving skills and review the new rules of the road. An informational program titled “Pain Is A 4-Letter Word” is scheduled for today from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Fayetteville location, The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive.
There is no argument to the discomfort that arthritis can cause, but there are ways to help alleviate some of the pain. Dr. Josh Davis with First Step Physical Therapy will cover the difference between osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, the causes of them, options for treatment, and ways to help with arthritic pain and inflammation.
