The purpose of the heart is to pump blood out to different parts of the body. If a person suffers from congestive heart failure, the heart muscle is significantly weakened and is unable to pump out enough blood to meet the needs of the body and therefore not deliver enough oxygen to the body.

Dr. Andrew Darlington, a cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure with Piedmont Heart Institute, will lead a free patient education session on congestive heart failure Tuesday, Feb. 23, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Piedmont Fayette Hospital. Lunch will be provided.

Among the many topics covered in the program will be diseases and behaviors that can increase risks for developing heart failure as well as how to treat and manage it.

The American Heart Association states that one in five Americans will develop heart failure. It is important to learn what you can do to prevent it or manage it if you have it.

Space for the free patient education session with Dr. Darlington is limited. To RSVP, call 770-716-0051.
