Mr. Michael Kenneth “Mike” Smallwood, 48, entered through the gates of Heaven at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Georgia Regents Medical Center in Augusta, Ga.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013 at the Thomson High School Auditorium with Rev. Addison Belangia, Rev. Scott Franklin and Rev. John Spencer officiating. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery in Thomson.
Serving as pallbearers will be Linton Neal, Cecil Strong, KIrk Kinson, Hal Howard, Neal Tam, Bill Beckum, Tony Arrington and Jesse Morlan. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be coaches and faculty of Thomson High School and Lincoln County High School.
Mr. Smallwood was born on April 20, 1965 in Macon, Ga. He was a member of Faith Community Church of Lincolnton and attended Inmotion Church of Thomson. Mike previously served as interim youth minister at Lincolnton Baptist Church and Youth Counselor at First United Methodist Church of Thomson. Coach Smallwood coached football for the Thomson Bulldogs, Greene County Tigers, Lincoln County Red Devils and also coached recreational sports in Lincoln County. He was currently serving as Assistant Principal and Vocational Director at Thomson High School.
Mr. Smallwood was preceded in death by his father, J. Kenneth Smallwood.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Heather H. Smallwood; four children, Drake, Britt, Owen and Braelin Smallwood; mother, Christine Chandler Smallwood of Calhoun, GA.; sister, Julianna S. Carter of Calhoun, Ga.; two nieces, Erica and Darby Carter.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Smallwood Children’s College Fund, in care of F&M Bank, P.O. Box 280, Lincolnton, Ga. 30817.
