SUMMARY:One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
DESCRIPTION:One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest opens at Southside Theatre Guild Thursday\, October 3. Written by Dale Wasserman\, the play is adapted form the novel by Ken Kesey and presented by special arrangement with Samuel French\, Inc.\, a Concord Theatricals Company. \nWhen Randle Patrick McMurphy gets transferred for evaluation from a prison farm to a mental institution\, he assumes it will be a less restrictive environment. But the martinet Nurse Ratched runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist\, keeping her patients cowed through abuse\, medication\, and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward’s patients. \nPerformances are scheduled October 3\, 4\, and 6 and October 10-13 on Thursday\, Friday\, and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. (There is no show on October 5.) \nTICKETS \nAdults: $20 each ($25 at the door) \nChildren under 12: $12 \nAll Thursday night adult tickets are discounted by $5. Discount will be applied at checkout. \nAbout Southside Theatre Guild \nSouthside Theatre Guild\, located in historic Fairburn\, is a 501c3\, non-profit organization staffed 100% by volunteers (no one gets paid!) For 47 years we have offered quality entertainment for the local community and is one of Metro Atlanta’s oldest\, continually operating community theatre. \nIn addition to theatrical productions\, we also offer improv workshops\, summer children’s theatre camp and special events for the community.\nWe are currently in desperate need of a new roof and have started a KEEP US COVERED fundraising campaign to help offset the costs (estimates range from $80-$100k). DESCRIPTION:Christmas with the Southern Crescent Chorale is a holiday tradition in our community and is a delightful way to begin your holiday season. Joined by the Whitewater High School Chorale on Friday evening and Starr’s Mill High School Chanticleer on Sunday afternoon\, the Chorale will perform a concert of cherished Christmas favorites accompanied by a full professional orchestra. \nRichard Clement\nThe Chorale welcomes Grammy-winning American tenor\, Richard Clement\, as guest soloist for both concerts. Clement has performed with most of America’s major orchestras and their music directors\, bringing tonal beauty and superb musicality to repertoire from the baroque to the contemporary. He recently premiered–and recorded–Theofanides’ The Here and Now with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony\, including performances in Atlanta and at Carnegie Hall. \nClement studied voice at Georgia State University and the Cincinnati Conservatory\, where he received his Master of Music degree. His dozen recordings include Britten’s War Requiem with the Washington Choral Society\, Bartók’s Cantata Profana with the Atlanta Symphony (both Grammy winners) and Tchaikovsky’s Pique Dame. Clement is currently an associate professor and Artist-in-Residence at Atlanta’s Georgia State University. \n\n“Christmas is a day of meaning and traditions\, a special day spent in the warm circle of family and friends.” ~ Margaret Thatcher. \n\nTickets are available at the Fayetteville Library or online at www.southerncrescentchorale.org.
