The lead pastor of a Fayetteville church has been charged with sexual battery and three counts of child molestation, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

David Hornbuckle, 51, was arrested Jan. 27 after the Sheriff’s Department was notified of an incident that occurred in early January that involved “inappropriate conduct” with “a juvenile known to him,” Sheriff Babb said.

Hornbuckle is currently in the Fayette County Jail with no bond set yet, according to the department.

Hornbuckle is listed as lead pastor of Whitewater Church, which is affiliated with the Assemblies of God denomination. The church is located south of Fayetteville at the intersection of Ga. Highway 92 South and Harp Road.

According to the church website, the church was started by Hornbuckle and his wife in 2008 and met for a time in Whitewater Middle School. “Pastor David has been in ministry for over 27 years,” the church website says.

  1. Ugh…I hope this is not true because it is so disturbing to even consider.

I had a friend who was a principal of a “last chance” high school in the 1980’s and had a student accuse him of inappropriate contact…which was later proved to be untrue…however the damage to the mans reputation was already done….and because the accuser was a minor there was no justice.

That said…if it is true in this case…let justice be served.
