A Union City woman was charged on Aug. 18 with first degree arson in an incident that caused damage to a residence on West Lane in north Fayette County.

Johnya J. Vanderhost, 32, was charged with arson in the first degree, according to Fayette County Jail records.

Fayette County Fire Marshal Anthony Koranda said fire units on June 30 at 8:13 p.m. were called to the residence in the Kenwood Landing Mobile Home Park off Milam Road in reference to a suspicious fire.

Units arriving at the scene observed smoke coming from a window and soon extinguished the fire that damaged approximately 20 percent of the residence, Koranda said.

There were no injuries in the incident.

Koranda said the investigation led to Vanderhost, who lives at the residence part-time, being charged with arson.
