Fayetteville resident Michael Lamar Graves was charged Feb. 26 with the murder of his nephew, Jason Brett Graves, in a Feb. 20 incident at the family’s place of business on Eastin Road north of Fayetteville.

Fayetteville resident Jason Brett Graves, 42, died Feb. 20 after suffering a gunshot wound to the chest at the family’s salvage yard business on Eastin Road.

Jason Graves’ uncle, Michael Graves, age 68, told investigators he shot his nephew.

Sheriff Barry Babb on Friday said warrants for felony murder, malice murder and two counts of aggravated assault were issued for Michael Graves’s arrest based on interviews by investigators and with the assistance of the Fayette County District Attorney’s office.

Graves arrived at the sheriff’s office with his attorney Friday morning to turn himself in, said Babb.

Regarding the Feb. 20 incident, Babb said Michael Graves called 911 at 6:27 p.m., stating that he had shot his nephew, Jason Brett Graves.

Babb said deputies responded to Graves Used Cars and Parts located at 205 Eastin Road and found Jason Graves lying on the floor of the salvage yard business with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Jason Brett Graves was transported to Piedmont Fayette Hospital where he was pronounced dead, said Babb.

Babb said both men were connected to the business on Eastin Road.
