The Fayette County government is announcing its lake cleanup event for local residents with kayaks and canoes to assist in protecting our water reservoirs. The program is called Water Guardians and the lake cleanup is today from 8:45-11 a.m.The target area is Lake Peachtree in Peachtree City. It is vitally important to keep local water reservoirs clean of pollutants. Volunteers are asked to meet at the boat ramp parking lot at 110 Battery Way in Peachtree City. Each new volunteer who registers with waterguardians@fayettecountyga.gov by Sept. 21 will be given a Water Guardians T-shirt at sign-in to wear during the event.
Previous participants are asked to wear their T-shirts to the event and register in order to have enough supplies on hand. In accordance with lake rules, no one under age 14 is allowed to operate a kayak or canoe solo. All participants must have a life vest and everyone will be asked to sign a liability waiver in order to take part.
There is also a need for volunteers who can walk along the trails near the boat docks to pick up trash. Trash bags and trash grabbers are provided by Water Guardians. To register for this event, send an email to WaterGuardians@fayettecountyga.gov and include your name, daytime phone number, contact email address and t-shirt size. In the event of rain, a makeup date will be given by email.

The launch for “Acorns to Wheat” by author David Wm. Allman is today at 1 p.m. in the Floy Farr Room at the Peachtree City Library.
Allman translated the technical jargon in scientific journals to create a believable portrayal of life 6,000 years ago in what would become southern France. A story of fictional lives in the real world of 4,000 B.C., “Acorns to Wheat” is billed as a book “filled with the suspense and drama of a family living in an ancient world.”

In early October, Gianfranco Folchitto will provide a photographic tour of one of the world’s greatest cities at the Peachtree City Library on the lower level in the Floy Farr Room.The photographer will showcase his photographs of Rome beginning Monday, Oct. 3, with a 6 p.m. presentation that is free and open to the public.The exhibit will remain in the library’s Floy Farr room through Oct. 12 and will be viewable by arrangement with library staff. The library also has a photography-related collection of E. Lee Eltzroth on display, where you’ll see a range of camera toys as well as a selection of photographs from early Georgia photographers. Also, the exhibit of images from photojournalist Michael Geissinger continues through October.

“Medicare Made Easy” is the title of the program scheduled for today from 10-11 a.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Fayetteville location (The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive). Anita Richards with Piedmont Fayette Sixty Plus and a GeorgiaCares Medicare expert will teach us the basics about our Medicare benefits. Learn the basic information about Part A (hospital insurance), Part B (medical insurance), Part C (advantage plans), Part D (prescription drug coverage) and Medigap (supplemental insurance to Medicare). “Thyme Is On Our Side” is scheduled for today from 1:30-3 p.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Fayetteville location (The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive). Dr. Delores Davis with Prime Time Health with demonstrate the easy way to grow herbs for a kitchen garden and share recipes for including healthier herbs into your diet. Having your own fresh herbs within arm’s reach can make meals more flavorful and healthier! This is a hands on workshop, so bring your gardening gloves and prepare to get your hand in the garden soil. Participants will have an opportunity to create their own herb garden to take home.
