The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is celebrating its 20th year in Fayette County. This year’s Relay For Life event is today at Sandy Creek High School. Relay For Life is a community event. This year’s theme is: “Paint Your World Purple.” Relay For Life is a fundraising event to benefit the American Cancer Society. Opening Ceremonies will start at 6:45 p.m. with the ceremonial Torch of Hope being brought into the track area and taken around the track by this year’s Torch of Hope participants. There will be the celebratory Survivors’ Lap, followed by the Caregivers joining their Survivor for another lap around the track, Interested in forming a team, registering as a cancer survivor, or finding out more information about Relay For Life? The Fayette County Spring Symposium is today from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on the third floor of the Old Fayette County Courthouse on the square. Sessions will include:
Beneficial Insects and their Identification
Protecting Bees and Pollinators from Pesticides
Fayette County’s Do’s and Don’ts with Honeybees
Building Native Bee Condos for your Backyard

Holly Grove AME Church is hosting a fish fry and yard sale today from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
There will be Southern-fried fish plates, sandwiches, baked goods and shopping.
The church is located at 400 Holly Grove Road in Peachtree City.

The Southern Crescent Chorale makes its thirteenth appearance at the Southern Ground Amphitheater with the music of Frank Sinatra at the “Ol’ Blue Eyes” concert today at 8 p.m. The 70-voice choir will fill the evening air with your favorite Sinatra hits like “Come Fly with Me”, “My Way”, “That’s Life”, “The Best Is Yet to Come”, and “Theme from New York, New York.” The Chorale will be accompanied by an eight-piece jazz band and will be joined by popular local soloist Ant Murphy, owner of The Georgia Shrimp Company in Peachtree City. Doors open at 7 p.m. with concessions provided by Fayetteville Dwarf House.Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors (60 and up). Tickets are $25 at the door. The Coweta-Fayette Auburn Club will hold its annual social and dinner meeting today at Due South Southern Cuisine in Peachtree City. Travis Williams, Auburn University’s linebacker coach, is the scheduled guest speaker. Williams played football for Auburn four years, winning All-SEC honors during the Tigers’ unbeaten 2004 season and winning all-conference honors again in 2005. In 2004, he led Auburn in tackles, was second in 2005 and third in 2003. He won the Pat Dye Leadership Award for defense in 2004 and 2005.
The social hour will start at 6 p.m. with a southern buffet dinner at 7. A silent auction to benefit the “Whupper Lee Scholarship” fund will feature many desirable items. A football signed by Coach Gus Malzahn and other Auburn collectibles will be raffled. The cost is $35 per person if paid by May 6 and $50 after that date. Children 12 and under are $15 each. The MOMS Club, along with the Downtown Development Authority, will be hosting a community playground night Tuesday, May 17, 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Church Street Park. Guests are invited to bring the kids, visit the park and relax while making new friends. There will be concessions available for purchase.
This event is where the plans will be unveiled for the Habitat for Humanity build day at the park.

“Retirement from Driving” is scheduled for today from 1-2 p.m. at Fayette Senior Services’ Fayetteville location (The Life Enrichment Center, 4 Center Drive). This class is designed to empower and teach you effective ways to comfortably talk with loved ones about their ‘retirement’ from driving. The conversation is never easy when it’s time to take the keys away, but Rick Roberts with Safe Solutions will help you gain tools and confidence needed to help your loved one make a smooth transition from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat.

National Senior Health & Fitness Day is a nationally recognized day for older adults, this year marking the 23rd one. It is held annually in May during Older Americans Month. The day’s goals are to promote the importance of overall health and wellness among older adults. This event will showcase local businesses as they present and offer products and services to improve your overall health as you age well and live well. Memorial Day is a day of remembering and honoring the men and women who have lost their lives while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The Southern Crescent Storytellers, a cluster group of the Southern Order of Storytellers, will present Father Goose Brigade Storytelling for all ages from 2-4 p.m. at the Peachtree City Public Library, in the Children’s Library on the main level.
Take Father’s Day photos with Father Goose, Mother Goose, and Puppy Goose Fletcher. Photo opportunities will be available starting at 1:30.
