The Fayette County Public Library will show “Gone With The Wind” today at 1:15 p.m. Doors open at 12:45. The event marks the novel’s continued presence on the best-seller list 80 years after its initial printing. There will be period dressed ushers and live music. The event is free and will take place in the library’s recently upgraded meeting room. This movie presentation will be suitable for audiences age 12 years and older. The collaboration between The Holliday Dorsey Fife Museum and the Fayette County Public Library is due to the shared interest in promoting the rich history of Fayette County through programming that is enlightening and entertaining for all ages. The Legacy Theatre is producing the family hit “Mary Poppins” running through Aug. 7. Now this favorite tale has been adapted into a fresh, new Broadway musical featuring classic songs like “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, “Spoonful of Sugar” and “Step in Time” alongside new musical numbers. Performances are Tuesday-Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30-$45 and can be purchased at www.thelegacytheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at 404-895-1473. Today is the second Market Day event of 2016 on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse in Downtown Fayetteville. Fayetteville Main Street welcomes everyone to browse through a variety of vendors showcasing their homemade and homegrown products.The Market opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 2 p.m. Subsequent Market Days will be held on the third Saturday of every month, now through August, and on the fourth Saturday of September and October. Community members are invited to participate in Piedmont Fayette Hospital’s July Walk with a Doc featuring orthopaedic surgeon Michael Behr, MD.The walk is today from 8:30-9:30 a.m. This year, each Walk with a Doc event will begin at the Peachtree City Farmer’s Market at the Aberdeen Village Shopping Center (215 Northlake Drive in Peachtree City).
Dr. Behr is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Fellow. Dr. Behr is fellowship trained in sports medicine. His specialty is general orthopaedic surgery with an emphasis in sports medicine and knee replacement. He is a founding member and currently serves as the Medical Director of OrthoAtlanta. He recently served as President of the medical staff at Piedmont Fayette Hospital and currently serves on the hospital board.
During the event, Dr. Behr will take a few minutes to talk about a health topic of his choice and participants can ask questions for the remainder of the session (approximately 40 minutes). A ride for Fayette County Deputy Toby Daly is today at noon at the old courthouse in Fayetteville. Toby is fighting cancer. Registration is at 9 a.m. with kickstands up at 11 a.m. The escorted ride returns at noon for a raffle and lunch. Cost is $20 per bike, and $10 per passenger. The farm-to-table way of thinking focuses on using extremely fresh ingredients that have been barely modified, sometimes presented raw just a few feet from where they grew. Learn about the health benefits of embracing this philosophy with an emphasis of freshness, seasonality, local availability, and simple preparations. Eligible blood donors are urged to schedule a donation today in conjunction with the blood drive scheduled for 1-6 p.m. at the Senoia United Methodist Church.
Walk-ins are always welcome at this drive, which is co-sponsored by the local church and the Senoia Optimist Club.The American Red Cross issued an emergency appeal July 5 asking eligible blood and platelet donors to give as soon as possible. The upcoming blood drive is for the Senoia area and beyond, and it will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Senoia United Methodist Church, 229 Bridge Street.
