Dennis cited for Rio achievement

BlazeSports America hosted its annual Triumph of the Human Spirit Awards Nov. 13 and recognized 20 individuals from across the state for their work and changing the lives of children and adults with physical disabilities through adaptive and Paralympic sport.

Winners included athletes, coaches and organizations from across the Atlanta area and ages ranging from teens to adults.

From Fayette County, Amanda Dennis was recognized and awarded for her triumphs during the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio.

Dennis is a two-time Paralympic goal ball player who went from sixth place during the London 2012 Games to reaching the podium while in Rio, earning a bronze medal along with the US Women’s Goalball team.

Not only did Dennis earned a Paralympic medal in 2016, but she also graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in sports management.

Dennis was awarded along with Georgia athletes, Paralympians, coaches, athletes and organizations that have made an impact on the lives of athletes and their community.

As an award recipient for 2016, Dennis was recognized for her incredible work during the Rio Paralympics while also remaining dedicated to her studies and graduating from college.
