All-American 5K set for May 23

There is only a week remaining until the 6th Annual All American 5K Run/Walk/Phantom race this year on Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, May 23).

The event this year is co-sponsored by the Peachtree City Running Club and the American Legion Peachtree City Post 50.

The race’s director Post 50 past commander, Major (Retired) Leigh Blood, calls this a win-win situation for all parties involved, including the two sponsoring organizations, Peachtree City itself, all the participants, and especially those who will benefit from the proceeds – our local soldiers and veterans as well as our  community’s youth.

“I am extremely proud to be a part of this event,” said Blood. “It is becoming another great patriotic Peachtree City tradition on par with the 4th of July and Veteran’s Day activities that take place in this city.”

Special guests of honor this year will be several World War II veterans who are members of the community. Their service will be honored and a moment will be observed to remember a number of them who passed away this past year. One of the vets will say a few words before the race, serve as the official race starter, and then speak again at the awards ceremony afterward.

To continue supporting the community and its veterans, race organizers are seeking runners, joggers, and walkers for the All American 5K.  All proceeds will be used to support veterans and community activities.

To obtain an application for the All American 5K, log on to the Peachtree City Running Club web site at www.ptcrc.com. Race day registrations are welcome as well, although there is no guarantee of getting one of the All-American high-tech T-shirts. If you have any questions, contact Leigh Blood at 404-775-9697 or RoadRunnerA4@att.net.
