History has been made at Starr’s Mill High with four FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) students becoming the first at the school to earn Statesman awards.

Alyssa Loesch, Dana Newman, Sarah Karol, and Cassidy Haycock (pictured above) earned their Statesman awards after passing a 50-question test on their knowledge of FCCLA and Georgia FCCLA.  They received Georgia FCCLA Statesman lapel pins and certificates acknowledging their achievement.

The Starr’s Mill High FCCLA chapter attended the Fall Rally at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, Georgia in October where another student brought home a ribbon for a peanut recipe.

Paris Coventon competed in the fourth annual Georgia Peanut Recipe Contest where she took fourth place and won a $25 prize for her original energy bar recipe using peanuts. She had to submit the recipe and a sample of the finished product for the judges. The Georgia Peanut Commission sponsored the competition.

Over 4,700 student and advisors from schools across Georgia participated in the fall rally and competed in events.

FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education.
