John Wendell Merrick, DVM

John Wendell Merrick, DVM passed away in the presence of his family on September 5, 2016.

Born December 6, 1929 in West Jefferson Ohio, he was a loving husband and devoted father of six children, grandfather of twelve and great grandfather of five. John displayed a deep and genuine sense of caring in all aspects of his life as a Veterinarian, community and social activist, civic organization supporter, and entrepreneur. The son of Andrew Clarence Merrick, DVM and Dorothy Elizabeth (Santee) Merrick, he shared his father’s and three uncles’ vocation in Veterinary Medicine. John was married for 56 years to his High School sweetheart, Carol Hough Merrick, who preceded him in death in 2006.

Charles Woodrow Johnson, 85, of Fayetteville

Charles Woodrow Johnson, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away September 24, 2016.

Charles was a member of Woolsey Baptist Church, was a bus driver for 10 years for the Fayette County Schools, and loved his farm and his church.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife Elaine and parents Jesse & Stella Johnson.

He is survived by his son Doug (Karen) Johnson; grandson Jacob (Stephanie) Johnson; granddaughters Hollis M. (William) Taylor and Kellis J. (Sean) Boland; five great-grandchildren; brother Sammy (Elaine) Johnson; and sister Carrie Lou (Dub) Summerall.

Interfaith discussion on youth planned tomorrow
Clergy and lay leaders are invited to attend an interfaith discussion regarding “Meeting the needs of Youth through Service” hosted by Doug Waldorf, bishop of the Fayetteville congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  The event will take place Thursday, Sept. 29 from 5 to 6:30 p.m.,  at 2021 Redwine Rd., Fayetteville.  Light supper will be served.  There is no charge.  Rsvp mgardner6080@gmail.com.
