The Rotary Club of Senoia for 2016-2017 was recently awarded a Rotary District 6900 Designated Grant in the amount of $2,250. With those funds, the club purchased enough food for 1,800 meals and presented the check to Meals on Wheels of Coweta to expand its goals in the community.

“This year the club wanted to focus on the senior population in the Coweta County Community,” said club treasurer and public relations chair Ginger Queener. “With the grant we purchased food supplies for Meals On Wheels of Coweta.”

Queener said the supplies consisted of meats, vegetables, fruits and cookies, and enough food to prepare over 1,800 meals allowing Meals On Wheels of Coweta to expand and meet their goal of serving 100 clients in 2016.

“This grant has not only expanded a program and impacted several of our communities citizens, but it has exposed our club to the needs of our community, which sometimes are not always known,” said Senoia Rotary President Scott Gumerson.

In addition, said Queener, this donation resulted in the expansion of the Senoia area to 10 clients, allowing several of them to come off of the waiting list. The Rotary Club has not only donated the food items for the meals, but members have signed up to deliver meals in the Senoia area each Monday for the next 52 weeks, Queener added.

“This gift of food from the club has given us the opportunity to meet our goal of reaching citizens that were on a waiting list and expanding our program, we are grateful for this wonderful gift and for the members of the club, all of which have signed up to deliver in the Senoia area over the next year,” said Meals on Wheels of Coweta board president Cynthia Bennett.

Meals On Wheels Coweta is located in Newnan, but serves all of Coweta County. Not only does the organization provide meals, but it also provides a handyman program to help clients with certain small needs around the home.
