For many gardeners, annuals are a colorful solution to many gardening needs from flowerbeds to container gardens to window boxes.

But choosing the right flowers to create that attractive, eye-catching look can be difficult.

Jenni Hernandez of Flintwood Farms in Fayetteville will share her expertise on annuals during the presentation “Annuals: Tried, True and New” at the March Backyard Association lecture, hosted by the Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers. The program is scheduled for Tuesday, March 10.

Hernandez, who operates Flintwood Farms with her sister Julie Thames, has been providing healthy, vibrant color for professional landscapers in Georgia and Alabama since 1999.  She will answer the question that bedevils so many gardeners: How do I combine plants to give me the color, foliage and texture combos I want?

“Growing quality, healthy, long lasting plants is a science in itself as well as a gentle dance with Mother Nature,” Hernandez said. “We have put annual color to the test in our own gardens to determine which plants are the best of the best.”

“Annuals: Tried, True and New” begins at 7 p.m. at the UGA Extension in Coweta County, 255 Pine Road, Newnan.

Admission is free and all are welcome, but registration is recommended and those who register are eligible for door prizes. Call 770-254-2620 or email uge2077@uga.edu to register.

The Backyard Association presentations, held on the second Tuesday of each month, are educational programs sponsored by the Coweta County Master Gardener Extension Volunteers.
