The Peachtree City Police Department is inviting the community to come out and connect with their officers during its “Coffee With a Cop” event from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. at the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Kedron Village. Coffee With a Cop is a national program supported by the U.S. Department of Justice. Its aim is to encourage open lines of communication between police officers and citizens. The program states that one of its key successes is that it removes the physical barriers and crisis situations that routinely define interactions between law enforcement officials and community members. Peachtree City residents of all ages are encouraged to bring their questions, concerns and comments as they meet with the city’s police officers on Thursday. The event is the second Coffee With a Cop for Peachtree City Police.

Hot July and August days can be stressful for birds, but a bird-friendly yard can attract birds — especially those fascinating hummingbirds — all summer long. Backyard gardeners who love birds can meet their needs for shelter, food and water, ensuring that Coweta County yards will be home to a wide range of species this summer, according to Audrey Harrelson, owner of Wild Birds Unlimited in Peachtree City. She will speak at the July 14 gathering of the Coweta Master Gardener Extension Volunteers’ Backyard Association at the Coweta County Extension Office, 255 Pine Road in Newnan. Admission to the 7 p.m. lecture is free, and the public is invited to attend. While reservations are not required, please call the Extension office at 770-254-2620 if you want to be included in the drawing for door prizes.
