Disappointed in Reps. Ramsey and Yates

Representatives Matt Ramsey and John Yates, if what I read about HB91 and your voting for it is true, I am disappointed.

The High School Graduation Test needs to stay in place. Common Core is not helping anyone.

It is sad enough that the greatness of America and encouraging achievement is not taught, but the basics of reading and writing are a necessity whether in workforce or other.

I am constantly reminded that the young people that work (and thank goodness they want to work, so I try to be patient) cannot even make change! And, Heaven forbid — use correct English and spelling!

Unfortunately, it is not just the high school level we are cheating of their education.

Ten years ago my granddaughter was “top student” with glowing grades in a local school third- and fourth grade. In fifth grade she transferred to private Christian school and could not do the work. Similar to the Atlanta schools ruining the lives of children by just “giving” grades.

So, let’s just “give” everyone a high school diploma. To teach them to read, write, study and be able to function in the world is not so important. They can stand in line for their EBT card with their phone in hand playing games.

And this black hole we are creating — not what I look forward to in the future of our great state or country.
