Commissioner Brown: Conserve water, vote in survey

I have two ways that you can be of great service to your community.

First, Fayette County and the rest of Georgia are progressing into a worsening drought situation. Please begin paying attention to your family’s water usage.

Our two main water sources, Lake Horton and Lake McIntosh, are at more than five feet below full pool.

One way we can be proactive is to report water leaks and limit our outdoor watering. These corrections can make a major difference in unnecessary water loss.

If you see puddling on the ground or water in the curb of the street for a several days and we have not experienced rain over that time, it could be a water main leak. Please report the location to the Water System at 770-461-1146 and select option 5.

If you own an irrigation system, remind yourself to curtail your use of the system as the weather gets colder.

Should the drought continue to worsen, we will end up with mandatory water restrictions.

Second, please take the short internet survey for creating the next iteration of the county’s Comprehensive Plan. You can find the survey at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/fayetteplan and it is for all Fayette County citizens.

If you feel there are some land planning or transportation issues that need to be addressed, please complete the survey. Tell us how you want Fayette County to look in future years.

This is your opportunity to drive the future buildout of the county. As you know, things can shift very quickly and we need to pay attention to the housing densities, traffic problems and other quality of life issues. Your comments are valuable to the local government effort.
