Piedmont Fayette Hospital donated $5,000 to the 2015 Walk to End Alzheimer’s of the Southern Crescent.

The event, which will take place Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater, raises funds to further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. While there is no fee to register, each participant is expected to fundraise in order to contribute to the cause and raise awareness.

Alzheimer’s is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. The walk is an annual event that unites 600 communities across the nation. The mission of the Alzheimer’s Association is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

“Unfortunately, too many people have a personal connection with Alzheimer’s and have felt the profound effects of the disease on their loved ones and their families,” said Debbie Britt, Piedmont Fayette’s executive director of public and community relations. “We are proud to support the Alzheimer’s Association and their efforts to advance research and advocate for prevention and care, especially the resources that benefit caregivers in our community”

Registration for the 3.1 mile walk begins at 8 a.m. Oct. 3. A ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and the walk starts at 9:30 a.m. Visit alz.org to start a team, join a team or make a donation. You can also contact Emily Richter at 404-728-6059 or erichter@alz.org for more information.
