Peachtree City officials issued a statement this week reminding residents that their last day to burn yard debris this spring is Saturday, April 30. The annual outdoor burn ban begins May 1 and continues through Sept. 30.

Before burning yard debris, residents are urged to visit http://www.ptcgovernment.org/fire/burnpermit/ to find out if burning is allowed on a particular day and to obtain a burn permit. For more information, call the Fire Marshal’s Office at 770-631-2526 or visit www.peachtree-city.org/burn.

Recreational fires and fires used for cooking are allowed and do not require a permit. As with any fire, please take into consideration the prevailing wind conditions and how dry the area is. Caution is urged if there has been an extended period without rain or winds reach 15 mph or greater. A few other tips: Accelerants such as gasoline or kerosene may not be used to start a fire, never leave a fire unattended, always have a method of extinguishing the fire, and be sure the fire is completely out and cold to the touch before leaving it.
