New ‘village’ set for East Coweta

The Sharpsburg Town Council will hold a public hearing Aug. 3 to hear details of the Briarwood Village development proposal consisting of retail, office and residential on the east side of Ga. Highway 54 a short distance north of the intersection of Hwy. 54 and Ga. Highway 16.

The proposal submitted by Thompson Lewis shows nearly 40,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space and a dozen homes ranging from 2,000-2,400 sq. ft.

The concept plan shows the entrance to the development on Hwy. 54 with all masonry retail space lining the south side of the street. The property sits on 9.5 acres with Traditional Neighborhood Commercial (TNC) zoning.

In total, the retail and office proposal includes 11,000 sq. ft. of shops and eateries, 16,000 sq. ft. of shops and loft spaces and 12,000 sq. ft. of offices and a day care center.

The proposal on the east side of the property shows a cul-de-sac with 12 residential lots on 9.34 acres. Homes are proposed at 2,000-2,400 sq. ft. with 1.6 lots per acre. The 1- and 2-story homes will feature all masonry construction, according to the concept plan.

Briarwood Village is a short distance north of the intersection of Hwy. 54 and Hwy. 16. The Georgia Department of Transportation is planning to install a roundabout at the intersection to replace the current four-way stop.

A second public hearing and likely vote will occur at the Aug. 17 meeting.

The east side of the proposed Briarwood Village development extends into the Town of Turin, where the construction of approximately 50 homes have been approved.
